Let’s Flip This Thing

There’s a sacred underlying emotion in a bride being given away by her father if that’s how you choose to make your wedding entrance. There is also beauty in a mother accompanying her daughter or both parents. What about jamming down the aisle by your beautiful self as your beloved lovingly awaits you at your rightful place beside him? I attended a wedding in which a bride walked in first, followed by her bridesmaids. I thought it was Brilliant! Why not choose what makes sense for you instead of agonizing over the way it “should be done”. Depending on your venue and other choices, you might not even have an aisle. That’s all good too.

I personally walked in accompanied by my beloved holding my hand. That made sense for us, because the way we saw it, we were to be joined together in marriage. The idea of having him ‘wait’ for me at the end of a walk didn’t resonate with us. We preferred the symbolism of jointly entering the space we had invited our loved ones to witness our promise to one another.

My initial vision was to have us greet our guests as they arrived at the venue, but beloved desired an ‘entrance’ 😉

Don’t get stressed out about the way it should be done. Unless a tradition makes sense for you, it’s an unnecessary prison. Continuously remind yourself that you won’t want to look back on your wedding wishing you’d been more comfortable. You’ll want to smile thinking about how confident, comfortable and happy you were on the day you formed your own family.

Oh my word, i always thought i was crazy for wanting to greet my guests at the door! We also chopped and changed quite a bit of the otherwise traditional aspects. We had an awesome day and we are loving marriage (still chopping and changing tradition)!

That’s brilliant Athi. Doing what makes sense for you is the best 🙂
