What Others Think

18 Jan

Today we have an excerpt from Iyanla Vanzant’s Acts Of Faith :

I have never been contained except that I made the prison. – Marie Evans

When you concern yourself with doing only what others “think” you can do, you lay the floor of your prison. When you conform your activities based on what others might say, you put the bars around your prison. When you allow what others have done or are doing to determine what you can do, you build the roof of your prison. When you allow fear, competition or greed to guide your actions, you lock yourself up and throw away the key. It is our concern over what others say, do and think about us that imprisons our mind, body and spirit.

What other people think about you is not your concern.

I absolutely love this and concur 100%!!! Two things come to mind which I’d like to add and assert. One should always work hard at being themselves, soon after, at outdoing who they were yesterday. Tomorrow you should be a bigger and greater you than you are today. Its important to understand this and live it as we are all authentically powerful and uniquely created.

Secondly, there is a great quote which resonates greatly with the last line of this post. ‘Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are’.)!!!

What are your thoughts?
